2 Kings 7:5-7

At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, no one was there, for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!” So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.

The Arameans had laid siege against Samaria for some time. Things looked really bleak and the end was near for all those who remained in the city. From the city walls, the Aramean camp still looked imposing. It appeared to everyone who looked out that day that all was for nought and they would soon be defeated. But God was at work behind the scenes!

We often don’t see how God is answering our prayers until afterwards. But He’s working. God is not obliged to tell us when or how or by what means He is working in our lives. His timing is almost never our timing. His ways are almost never our ways. But He is at work behind the scenes. He is moving. He is preparing. He is speaking. And we are waiting. That’s usually the hardest part. The wait! Has God got you waiting for an answer to prayer today? Does it appear from the outside that no progress is being made? Are there people telling you to give up, accept defeat, walk away? Don’t forget that God is always working in the background. It is never too late with God. It is never beyond repair. It is never too much. He’s working. You can count on that!
