2 Corinthians 1:10 – He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,
“On Him we have set our hope”. Mic drop on that one! Is there more we need to say? Only if I could live that way every day. That’s the problem. It’s something we all know. We should place all our hope, all our trust, all our dreams on Him who is able to do exceedingly more than we could ever ask or imagine. Why is it so difficult then?
I think part of the problem is that you can’t teach someone else to trust. Trust only comes by experiencing it for yourself. My dad used to call it the pucker factor. No matter how hard you train, you can’t train how you will feel in the moment. When fear kicks in and the adrenaline starts pumping, what are you going to do? God gives us bite size opportunities to trust Him so that after we’ve seen His faithfulness in the small times, we will be able to trust Him in the hard times as well.
The other aspect of trust is my own doubt regarding whether God’s promises really apply to me. I mean, maybe I have fallen short one too many times? Maybe I’m not good enough to apply God’s promises to my life. Those only apply to the people who are really close to God. That all sounds so absurd when I think about it, but in the moment, when I have decisions to make, the enemy is so convincing. So, here’s the truth. None of us are worthy of God’s promises. Only Jesus is worthy. Therefore, all of us are equally worthy in Christ of all of God’s promises. No matter what you’ve done. Period, end of story.
