Proverbs 7:1-2 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
The verb translated “store up” can mean to treasure. God’s commands are to be like buried treasure in our hearts! If you think about it, buried treasure is saved for when you need it. The treasure can sustain you. The treasure can open doors for you. The treasure is insurance and assurance for your future. It is the same for the Word of God. God’s Word is a treasure that can sustain you, unlock and open doors for you, and is insurance and assurance for your future.
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11.
And His Word is to be the apple of your eye. The pupil, the center, the focus. We are to set our affections on God’s Word. Delight in it. Desire it. Long for it. Have you fallen in love with God’s Word lately? The Bible is so rich! It is so fulfilling! Because God meets us in His Word. He is there present as we read His commands and teachings, as we read His love letter to us.
“My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times.” Psalms 119:20.
