Proverbs 10:2 Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.
I got a great deal on a set of tires but compromised my integrity and character in the process. It wasn’t worth it. The guy at the shop had quoted me a price for a different size tire then what they ended up putting on my truck. When I went to pick up the truck I was determined to get the better price. Since the guy who quoted me the price wasn’t there, the new salesman didn’t realize the error in the quote and the store couldn’t figure out how I got such a good deal on those tires. I knew but I didn’t say anything. They finally figured it out but honored the original quote anyways. I walked out of there having got the better deal but feeling horrible. I am convicted every time I drive by.
What have you done that compromised your character and left you feeling the shame of your lack of integrity?
Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value. In the end, they never satisfy. Righteousness is lasting though. Righteousness fills us with peace and confidence in the good times and in the trials. I can walk with my head held high when I’ve acted in integrity. As the saying goes, “Honesty is the best policy.”
Thank God for a righteousness that is not our own. If it were up to me, my righteousness is so tarnished and filthy that it would never amount to much. But God clothes us with the uncompromised righteousness of Christ. We can all stand with our head up not because of our actions but because of Jesus’! So, today, let Jesus give you that perfect peace knowing that you are spotless in His righteousness.
