Genesis 18:1 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.
Reminds me of the lazy days of summer. Abraham was just sitting in the entrance of his tent. Just watching the world go by. Maybe taking a break from activity during the hottest part of the day. And along comes God. Sometimes I wonder how many times I miss God because I don’t take the time often enough to just sit. Our world pushes us to work, work, work every moment, every day. Rest seems more like a four-letter word in our society. Something to be avoided and definitely not enjoyed.
But God shows up when we rest. God speaks to us when we rest. God encourages us, reminds us of His promises to us, and lifts up our heads when we rest. Does your life feel more like the heat of the day right now? Maybe it’s time to sit down, take a breath, and rest from all that has you too busy to hear God’s voice? Go ahead. Take a deep breath. And let the Lord speak to your heart today.
