Genesis 15: 1 – I am Your Shield

God is your shield. He will never fail in the midst of an attack.

Genesis 15:1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

God is saying to Abram, “I am your shield, your defender, your protector, your covering. When the attack comes, Abram, and it will come, I’ll be there to keep you safe.” This shield can not be penetrated or overcome. It can not be damaged or destroyed. But it can be dropped or discarded. It can be forgotten and neglected. A shield cannot protect one who chooses not to carry it with them into battle.

God is your shield. He will never fail in the midst of an attack. He will not break when the going gets tough. He will not let you down when you need Him the most!

And God is saying to Abram, “I am your reward. You want a child, an heir, but am I not enough? I am your very great reward!” Abram was struggling because he didn’t know the treasure that he already had. He was looking in the natural and seeing a lack, while in the spirit he had an abundance.

When you take stock of your life today, do you see only the lack? What you don’t have? What looks impossible? Our God is an over abundant God. He pours out a blessing that spills over into all of our lives. Can you see His abundance in your life today? He is your very great reward! Lord, give us faith to hold on to you as our shield and eyes to see you as the abundant reward that you truly are!
