2 Kings 6:16 – Don’t be Afraid

2 Kings 6:16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

When we align ourselves with God, we can always say that “those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” When we are for what God is for and against what God is against we can have the confidence that He will defend us with His angel armies.

But it is hard to remember that when staring at the army surrounding us. When our focus is taken off Jesus, and we only see the wind and waves that are crashing all around us, it is difficult to remain above our circumstances.

I immediately go to fear. That is my default response. In my fear, I turn to figuring out how I’m going to get out of this situation on my own, in my own strength, with my own ingenuity. When will I ever learn? I need the constant reminder, “Don’t be afraid.” I need to hear it day after day, “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” I chicken out so often. I play it safe. I run away. I hide. All the while, God has my back. It’s not too much for Him to handle. Even when I feel alone, I am never alone. God always has a plan. I just need to step through my fears and watch His plan unfold through me, around me, within me.

It’s easy to look at the world around us through the eyes of the world’s system and feel defeated and hopeless. We need to start looking at this world through eyes of faith. Eyes that we allow God to open to the possibilities and to His kingdom at work all around us. When I choose to do that, it gives me hope and purpose and strength.
