2 Kings 6:5-6 As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float.
The man lost the tool given to him to accomplish his task. For a moment, can we think of this passage in terms of our purpose as Christians here on earth, our mission. We are each created with purpose. God has given you breath today for a reason. What is it? Do you know your mission statement?
And God has given to each one of us gifts and talents in order to accomplish this mission. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10. Do you know what your gifts and strengths are?
Unfortunately, I let circumstances get in the way of using my gifts. Day after day, letting that gift slip more and more. Until one day I wake up and realize that I’ve lost track of my giftedness. I might be wondering why I’m not effective any longer. It has slipped off and I’m no longer exercising it to build up and strengthen the Body.
That’s when God asks us, as He did through the prophet Elisha, “Where did it fall?” Pointing out to us that we’re no longer using our talents to help others. Showing us where we’ve gotten soft from lack of work. Encouraging us to get back to work with the tools that He has given to us.

- Can you find it, with His help, and begin to use it to help others?
- Who needs your gift today?
