2 Kings 2:14 He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? Elisha had been the servant to Elijah for some time, since Elijah anointed him to succeed him in 1 Kings 19. Elisha had seen God work through Elijah and knew that God spoke to him. Now Elijah was gone. Was God gone as well? Did I receive a double portion of the anointing? I’m sure Elisha was wondering if the Jordan would part for him as well.
Is God faithful to me? Do His promises apply to me? It is easy to get overwhelmed with these questions. It’s easy to mentally say yes but in our hearts questions whether this is true. Is God the same today as He was back then? Will He show up for me? Can I take Him at his word? Sit with those questions for a moment. Let God speak to your heart today. What is He saying to you?
