2 Kings 19:30-31 Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. “The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
The word remnant is used three times in 2 Kings 19 and twice in these two verses. The remnant is important to God. Sa’ar – to remain, be left over, be left behind. But in no way are those who remain, leftovers! Those that remain faithful are a treasured possession to our Lord. They are the survivors! The are the faithful that didn’t give up! The remnant are those that stand strong!
I want to be part of the remnant. I want to be faithful to the end. I want to stand up against whatever the enemy throws at me. But I don’t always. I mess up. I give in. I yield when I should stand. I can’t do it in my own strength. I cry out for mercy and help!
But instead of invalidating me as part of the remnant, it is our cry to the Father that includes us as part of the remnant. It is because we acknowledge that we can’t do it on our own and need Him that identifies us as His. As verse 31 says, “The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”
So, include yourself in this “band of survivors” today. You belong!
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
