2 Kings 19:19 “Now, LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, LORD, are God.”
Hezekiah ends his prayer with this beautiful statement of why God should answer. It wasn’t because Hezekiah thought he was the most powerful and deserved deliverance. It wasn’t because he wanted people to see how great he was at praying or how religious he was. It wasn’t because he had the most money or drove the best chariot. It wasn’t even because it would save countless lives of God’s people. The reason Hezekiah thought that God should answer his prayer was, “so that all the kingdoms of the earth my know that you alone, LORD, are God.”
Hezekiah’s purpose was to lift God up in the sight of all mankind. He didn’t want to take credit for the deliverance; he wanted God to get all the glory. What a stark contrast to how our world operates. In this day and age, it’s all me, me, me! Look at what I’ve done. Look at who I am. Be like me. We call them influencers, and we are followers. That’s kind of scary to think about.
Who are you following? Who are you influencing?
Imagine for a moment, if our goal was to point everyone to Jesus. That we did what we did so that all nations would know that Jesus alone is God. How might that change the way you went about your day today? To God be the glory!
