2 Kings 17:14 But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the Lord their God.
The Lord had been warning Israel for hundreds of years. God spoke through His prophets time and time again, warning His people of the consequences of their disobedience. Talk about long suffering! It’s easy to read of the punishment of Israel and think that God isn’t fair. That He didn’t give them a chance. That He is just an angry God that is so hard to please. But God had given the children of Israel every possible chance to turn back to Him.
They would not listen. Do I listen? God is so patient with me. But do I listen? Do I hear His warning and turn back to Him or do I remain in my sin? O Lord, help me to listen. Help me to hear your voice and run back to you when I have strayed.
