2 Kings 16:14 As for the bronze altar that stood before the LORD, he brought it from the front of the temple—from between the new altar and the temple of the LORD—and put it on the north side of the new altar.
King Ahaz “did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God” v2. King Ahaz, in his time of need, turned to the king of Assyria instead of to the Lord, v7. He plundered anything left of value in the temple, set up his own alter front and center, and pushed God to the back. All this and more he did “in deference to the king of Assyria” we read in verse 18.
How often have I done the same thing? How often have I wanted the approval of man more than the approval of God? You need me to work on Sunday. OK, I’ll miss church. You’re wanting me to come in early from now on. OK, I’ll skip my quiet time. It offends you that I wear Jesus’ name on my shirt. OK, I’ll stop wearing those shirts. These little actions add up and pretty soon there’s dust on my Bible and God has been pushed to the background of my life. Sound familiar? How have you pushed God to the background in your life? Have you turned to the world for help when you should have turned to the Lord? Have you replaced devotion to Him with something else that is more bright and shiny and appealing to those around you? It’s time that we put God front and center where He belongs. Can you commit with me to allowing God to have His rightful place on the throne of our heart, in the center of our life?
