Romans 6:14 – Grace

What keeps you from receiving grace?

Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Reading this verse today it struck me how much I still don’t understand about grace. According to this verse, I don’t have to serve sin because of grace. When I was under the law, sin was my master. When I live under the burden of do’s and don’ts, looking to my works, my effort, and my performance for my self-worth and right standing with God, then I am choosing to live under the law once again. In doing so, sin is there waiting to take over and be my master once again. Every once in a while, God’s light will break into this darkness and I will get a glimpse of His grace; I will be reminded that He paid the price, that He rose again to bring me new life, and the light of the resurrection will shine over me, flooding me with freedom and peace. But before long, fear will creep in. Am I doing enough? Am I good enough? Is it really true? And then it is back to, well I had better do this or that. I should do more of this. Anyone ever feel like me? Am I the only one that struggles with this amazing gift of grace?
