Ephesians 2:13 – Closeness with God

I used to get condemned if I fell asleep while praying.

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Jesus made a way for us to be close to God. We were once separated from God but now we are near to Him. Near enough to hear His still small voice. Near enough to feel the warmth of His embrace. Near enough to be wrapped up in His everlasting arms of love.

I used to get condemned if I fell asleep while praying. Then I had children and realized how enjoyable it was to have my boys fall asleep in my lap. It’s ok to fall asleep in your Father’s lap on occasion. We can be that close to Him. The Spirit in us cries out Abba, Father (Galatians 4:6).

Intimacy with God is something I crave. To be in His presence and sit at His feet is heaven on earth. In His presence is fullness of joy. Draw close to Him and He will draw close to you. We may boldly approach the throne of grace seeking mercy in the time of need. Our God is that near, that available, that willing to be in relationship with us.

  • What keeps you from drawing near to God?
  • When do you feel the closest to God?
  • How can you make intimacy with God a priority today?
