Ephesians 2:1-3 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.
You were dead. We all were. And we all would still be if not for Christ and what He accomplished for us at Calvary. The wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23). The word wages, opsonion in the Greek, means a soldier’s pay or pay for hire. Basically, you and I hired sin to please us for a moment at the cost of our life. Wow! Was it worth it? When I look at it in that light, it seems so ridiculous to give in to temptation, so unthinkable to give up so much for so little.
But it is in our nature to do so. Surely, I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me (Psalms 51:5). It helps me to put into perspective the depravity of my flesh. By nature, I deserve wrath. By grace, I receive life!

“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” Lamentations 3:22-23 Thank God for His daily mercies that I lean on each day! So, as my flesh is consumed day by day, my spirit is renewed day by day. Choose life today!
