Ephesians 1:11-12 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
The word “chosen” in verse 11 comes from the Greek word kleroo which means to cast lots, to assign by lot, and to become a heritage. The King James translates it as “inheritance”. It can also refer to a special possession. So, we could just as easily translate this verse as, “In Christ we have been made a special possession of God’s, His heritage and inheritance.” wow!
That’s why Paul goes on to say in verse 12 that God did this “for the praise of His glory”. God receives the glory for each person that hopes in Christ. As His inheritance grows, so does His glory. The same is true for any good thing that we accomplish. God should receive the glory. When I take the glory for an action, I am robbing God of what is due to Him. Imagine if all of God’s inheritance would give God the praise and honor and glory that is due to Him. That’s what heaven is going to be like.
Lord God, today we praise you for choosing us in Christ as your treasured possession. Let us not wait until heaven to give you the glory due your name. Let our lives bring you glory both now and forever. Amen.
