1 Samuel 1
When I read these verses I notice a few things. First, Hannah has a wound. She is barren. Elkanah tries to meet this need, cover over this wound, by giving Hannah a gift or blessing, a double portion. Hannah’s rival continues to attack her at her point of woundedness, constantly reminding her of her weakness, constantly bringing to light what Hannah would prefer to hide. To the point that Hannah can’t even enjoy the blessing, the gift, that she has been given by Elkanah.
I don’t know about you, but I can relate to this. I too am wounded and broken and weak in certain areas. I sometimes try to cover over or make up for these wounds in my own strength. Others try to make me feel better at times as well. My enemy continues to remind me of where I fall short, how I don’t belong, how I just don’t measure up. To the point where I forget about my blessings, neglect my gifts, and am unwilling to enter in. How about you?
