Genesis 16:13 She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
Hagar had run away from her mistress Sarai so she wasn’t looking to be seen, to be found. But God saw her and found her.
We all have an inherent need to be seen. Deep down inside each one of us, there is a longing to be affirmed, to be noticed, to be chosen. Some of us act good to get noticed, some of us act bad. Some of us seek affirmation by what we do and some of us by how we look. Some crave the attention of everyone while some just need that one person to love them. But we all want to be seen by someone.
One of the most amazing aspects of our God is that He sees us. Out of the billions of people on this planet, God sees you! God knows you! God loves you! Now, sometimes I think to myself, “I hope He didn’t see that.” But He did see that and loves me still. The biggest hole in my heart is this need to be loved and affirmed and chosen. Psychologists would label me as unaffirmed or under-affirmed. God labels me His! God says that He chose me and will never leave me! Do you feel unseen today? Or do you crave to be seen for who you are and not what you do? Is there a label that you or the world has placed on you that you just can’t shake? “That’s not who I am!”, you scream. We serve the God who sees. He sees you today. And no matter where you are, He loves you today.
