Genesis 1: 3-4 – God is Light

Genesis 1:3-4 And God said, “Let there be light, “ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

Before light, there was only darkness. Darkness is the absence of light. Our eyes require light in order to see anything. Without light we can’t see shapes, we can’t see colors, we are blind. Not God. He sees even when there is no light. Nothing is beyond His sight.

God spoke into the void and called forth light, and it was good. God paints all of creation with light. The human eye sees shapes and colors because of light reflected off of the objects around us. Our surroundings reflect certain wavelengths of light and absorb others, which is what determines the color we see. It all starts with light. Every day, without fail, He reminds us of His goodness by bringing light to this world. 1 John 1:5 says, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” If you are experiencing darkness in your life in some area, it is an absence of God. Invite God into those areas and let His light shine into that darkness. It is only then that you can see clearly what is there; it is only then that you can see the beautiful colors that exist all around you. By the way, God didn’t create the sun, moon, and stars until day 4. That means that when God created light, He alone was the source of that light. God’s light has always dispelled the darkness!
