2 Kings 13:20-21 Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.
Imagine a life so saturated with the presence of God that even one’s dead bones still witness of God’s power. That’s Elisha! He is referred to as “the man of God” 24 times in the book of 2 Kings. Far more than any other individual in the Bible. I wonder what my life would have to look like to have all those around me call me “the man of God”? I’m so far from that! How about you? Is your life so marked by God that others constantly refer to you by your relationship with Him?
What keeps us from living that life? Here are few that come to mind for me. Fear that I’ll offend someone. Fear that I won’t fit in. Doubt that I have what it takes. Doubt that it will make a difference. Too busy with the things of this world. Too much attachment to the things of this world. More focused on my happiness than His will. More focused on me than on others. And so many more! What about you? What are your excuses for not living “the man of God” sort of life?
What if we did? What if we saturated our lives with God’s presence? What if we sat and soaked Him in and then poured it out on the world around us? What difference could that make? Could it change this generation? What legacy could you leave to the next generation? Let’s live our lives in such a manner that everyone around us refers to us by our relationship to Jesus!
