2 Kings 18:5-7 Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the LORD and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the LORD had given Moses. And the LORD was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook.
Finally, a king that served the Lord. It gets depressing reading of all the kings that fell short of wholehearted devotion to God. Even those that did good seemed to fall short. They were unwilling to go all in for the Lord. Not Hezekiah. He was all in. “He held fast to the LORD and did not stop following him.” Way to go Hezekiah!
I must check my heart each morning because I know that it wanders. Am I all in for you, Jesus? Am I holding fast to you? Am I abiding in you and your word? What do I allow to get in the way of wholehearted devotion to God? Is it sin? Or just plain laziness? Or the frantic fire that needs to be put out at work? Is it that I’m afraid that I’ll be ostracized for being that Christian guy? What have I let seep in to my thoughts that drives a wedge between me and God? Maybe I start to doubt that He really loves me and is for me? Am I upset with Him for not answering my prayers in the way I wanted them answered; when I wanted them answered? How about you? Check your heart today. Are you holding fast to the Lord today?
Verse 5 says, “There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him.” Because Hezekiah held fast and didn’t stop following God. What if you were all in for Jesus every day? Might it one day be said about you, “There was no one like _______!” Go for it! The promise we have if we do is that the Lord will be will us.
