2 Corinthians 1:24 – It is by faith you stand firm.
What are you standing on? Not physically, but what are you building your life upon?
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27.
What does it mean to build your life on the rock? Jesus tells us plainly in the passage above, the one “who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice”. It seems to me that a practical definition of faith then is listening to Jesus and obeying what He says. That’s what it takes to stand firm.
I want to stand firm. I want to have a faith that is solid and unshakeable. I think one of the proofs of Christianity is when we look back at our life and realize that we are still standing even though the wind and waves have battered us. I can look back at my life and see the hard times and because I still believe in Jesus, what He says must be true. If my faith was placed in a fake, an imposter, or even a good man, I wouldn’t be standing today. I would have given up long ago.
Take a look at your life today. Are you still standing? You are only standing because of your faith in Jesus and His word. And you are only standing because Jesus is who He said He is. It is by your faith that you stand firm. So, keep believing and keep standing!
