Colossians 4: 2 – Prayer

What difference does it make if we pray?

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Why should we pray? If God already knows everything and knows what we need before we ask for it, why should we pray? What difference does it make if we pray? Lots!

  • James 4:2 “You do not have, because you do not ask God.”
  • James 5:15 “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;”
  • James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

And that’s just in a few verses of one book. Prayer is another of those mysteries with God. Somehow prayer does something. Prayer is necessary. Prayer is powerful. Prayer is our obligation. Prayer is our strength. Prayer is a relationship with God. Prayer is a covering for others. Prayer is my hearts cry. Prayer is my heart being silent and listening.

Prayer is to be our devotion. We are to be given to prayer in all circumstances. Watchful in prayer. Thankful in prayer. We are to pray without ceasing. We are to be confident that God hears our prayers. We are to be bold in our prayers. We are to pray for believer and we are to pray for unbelievers. We are to pray for those in authority and those in need. All of our life should be covered in prayer.

What a gift we have been given in prayer! It makes me want to pray right now. How about you?
