Ephesians 6:17 Take … the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Finally, we are presented with an offensive weapon. The sword of the Spirit. We read in Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” The Bible is more than just words on a page. It is alive! It is God’s word to us and God’s word cannot be stopped. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11.
The weapon that we wield in this spiritual battle is the Word of God. If we are to wield it well, we must know it well. It must be ever on our minds and lips. Jesus modeled how to use the Word of God in battle when He was tempted by the devil in Matthew 4:1-11. In each instance, Jesus responded with, “It is written”. In every battle we can attack and counter attack with “It is written”. So, fill up on the Word of God today and let it transform your mind and sink into your heart. Practice using it. Let it become as comfortable to you as a sword in a soldier’s hand.
