Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation
The helmet protects our head and specifically our mind. Every day our minds are assaulted by the devil and his lies. Everywhere we look, everywhere we turn, his influence can be seen and heard. Those who do not have the helmet of salvation on are easily duped into believing these lies. Look at the word amuse for a second. The root word is muse which means to think upon something. The prefix a means without. So, amuse means without thinking. So, when we sit back and let the television amuse us, we are letting this world’s culture think for us.
Our safeguard against this is to keep our minds fixed on our salvation. When faced with lies, line them up against an eternal mindset. What eternal consequences will this line of reasoning bring me? What importance does this thought carry when weighed in the balance of eternity. Does this image reinforce my salvation in Christ or come against it?
There is a constant attack against our minds. This spiritual warfare never stops. There is a song by Third Day entitled “Your Words” that speaks to this.
