Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Humility, gentleness, patience, and the ability to put up with others faults. Which of these is the hardest for you? If you try to be a person that lives these out in your own strength what is the result? I know that I fail miserably in my attempts to be humble. My flesh isn’t nice and gentle and when I strive to be patient, I find that I get frustrated. I also don’t do well at putting up with other people’s short comings. Basically, I can’t do it alone.
Thank God that these are part of the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. That means that we don’t have to try in our own strength to accomplish these. We can rely on the Holy Spirit to bring them forth in our lives. We abide in the vine; He produces the fruit.
But even the fruit of the Spirit doesn’t mean a thing when not supported by and motivated out of love. Love is what makes it all work. Love is that “God particle” that is the answer to so many questions and problems in this world. With God’s love in us, we can be all that He has called us to be.
